Hang 'Em High — Map Guide & Strategy
Hang 'Em High is an indoor arena set inside a massive stone chamber resembling a crypt or burial hall. Tombstone-shaped pillars provide cover at ground level while an asymmetrical network of elevated metal catwalks crisscrosses the upper reaches. There are no vehicles, no cramped corridors — just pure vertical gunplay. The map's open sightlines reward pinpoint pistol accuracy and punish reckless movement. Every raised platform is a power position, and the player who controls the high catwalks controls the match.

Map Layout & Callouts
Key Locations
- Blue Catwalk — The longest elevated walkway spanning the blue side of the map. Clear sightline across the entire chamber floor.
- Red Catwalk — The opposing catwalk on the red side. Slightly lower than blue catwalk, with ladder access from the floor.
- Center Tombstones — The cluster of tall stone pillars in the middle of the floor. Provides the only ground-level cover from catwalk fire.
- Shotgun Hall — A short enclosed corridor on the ground level near the blue side. The shotgun spawns here and it is the only true close-quarters zone on the map.
- Sniper Perch — The highest point on the red catwalk side. Reached via a ladder, this spot has an unobstructed view of the entire blue half of the map.
- Ramp Room — The sloped entry area on the far end opposite the tombstones. Often used as a spawn zone and a staging area for catwalk pushes.
Strategy Tips
- Claim the catwalks within the first 10 seconds — sprint to the nearest ladder and establish high ground before the enemy team even reaches the center
- The pistol is king on this map — its three-shot headshot kill with zero scope sway makes it a better choice than the sniper at medium range against moving targets on catwalks
- Use the tombstones as weave cover — strafe in and out of the pillars while firing upward at catwalk enemies to make yourself a difficult target
- In Oddball, hold the ball on the blue catwalk with two teammates — one watches the ladder, the other covers the long approach, and a third roams the floor to intercept flanks
- Never stand still on a catwalk — silhouetted against the ceiling lights, a stationary player is a free headshot for any pistol user on the opposing catwalk
- The shotgun hall is a trap for greedy players — it guarantees close-range kills but the single exit means you will trade your life for every frag you get in there
Map-Specific Advice
Learning the callouts on Hang 'Em High is essential for team communication. Focus on controlling power positions and learning grenade bounce spots for maximum effectiveness.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the pistol so strong on Hang 'Em High?
The M6D pistol is a precision weapon with a 2x scope and a three-shot kill to the head. On Hang 'Em High, engagement distances are perfectly within the pistol's effective range — close enough that you do not need the sniper's magnification, but far enough that automatic weapons lose accuracy. A skilled pistol user can lock down an entire catwalk from across the map. Most competitive matches on this map revolve almost entirely around who lands their pistol headshots first.
How do I retake the catwalks if the enemy controls them?
Do not climb the ladders directly — you will be shot before your head clears the top rung. Instead, use frag grenades to bounce off the ceiling and force the enemy off their position, then push up while they are repositioning. Coordinate with a teammate so one player grenades from below while the other takes an alternate ladder. Plasma grenades are less effective here because catwalk players can easily dodge the slow arcing throw. If all else fails, contest from the floor using the tombstones as cover and pistol them down.
What game modes work best on Hang 'Em High?
Slayer and Oddball are the standout modes. Slayer turns the map into a pure aim duel where map knowledge and pistol accuracy decide everything. Oddball creates intense king-of-the-hill dynamics around the catwalks. CTF is playable but less natural — the flag spawns in the open and the capture routes are extremely exposed, leading to very slow, defensive matches. King of the Hill with the hill rotating between the tombstones and catwalks creates excellent variety.
Where does the sniper rifle spawn?
The Sniper Rifle spawns at the Sniper Perch — the elevated platform on the red catwalk side accessible only by ladder. It is the single most contested spawn on the map because holding the perch with a sniper gives you one-shot kill potential on anyone crossing the blue catwalk or moving through the tombstone field. The spawn timer is roughly 60 seconds, and good teams will cycle a player to grab it the moment it respawns.
