Overview

Elite Minors are the backbone of the Covenant military. Agile, shielded, and equipped with plasma weaponry, they require a combination of shield-stripping and precision finishing. They are intelligent fighters who dodge, strafe, and take cover.

Behavior

Elite Minors are aggressive but tactical. They strafe frequently, use cover effectively, and will charge when their shields are depleted. At long range, they prefer plasma weapons; at close range, they switch to powerful melee attacks. They communicate with Grunts and coordinate attacks.

  • +Weak to: Headshots (after shield breaks)
  • +Weak to: Needler supercombine explosion

Weaknesses

  • Resistant to: Bullet weapons (against shields)
  • Resistant to: Frag grenades (can dodge)

Combat Tactics

  • Use the Noob Combo: charged Plasma Pistol shot to strip shields, then a Magnum headshot to finish
  • Stick them with Plasma Grenades when they're stationary or stunned
  • Needler supercombine is extremely effective — a full magazine will kill any unshielded Elite
  • Keep distance — Elite melee attacks deal massive damage and can kill quickly
  • On Legendary difficulty, never engage an Elite Minor without cover nearby

Quick Tips

  • Prioritize weapons that exploit Elite Minor's weaknesses.
  • Watch for attack telegraphs — most attacks have clear wind-up animations.
  • On higher difficulties, elite minor behavior changes — be prepared to adapt.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the fastest way to kill an Elite Minor?

The fastest method is the Noob Combo: charge a Plasma Pistol to strip shields (about 1 second), then switch to the M6D Magnum and land a single headshot. This kills any Elite Minor in under 2 seconds on any difficulty.

Can I melee an Elite Minor?

It's risky. Elite melee attacks deal 70 damage (enough to kill in 2 hits on Heroic). Only melee an Elite when their shields are down and you have full health. Better to keep your distance and use ranged headshots.

How does Elite behavior change on Legendary difficulty?

On Legendary, Elites have significantly more health and shields, are more aggressive, dodge more frequently, and their plasma weapons deal devastating damage. They also coordinate better with nearby enemies.

What weapons work best against Elite Minors?

Magnum (headshots), Plasma Pistol + Magnum combo, Needler (supercombine), Sniper Rifle (one headshot after shield break), and Shotgun (close range after shield is down).

How do Elite Minors differ from higher Elite ranks like Majors and Zealots?

Elite Minors have the lowest health and shield values of all Elite ranks, and their AI is less aggressive. Majors have roughly 50% more shields and use cover more effectively. Ultras and Zealots have even stronger shields, faster reflexes, and on Legendary, Zealots wield Energy Swords with active camouflage. Master the Minor first before taking on higher ranks.
